PurrtectMe.com allows anyone to paste a suspicious email, text message, or phone call script into the site and receive an instant, plain-language explanation of whether it is likely a scam. The platform requires no account, no payment, and no technical experience to use.

According to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center 2025 Annual Report, Americans aged 60 and older filed 201,266 fraud complaints in 2025, reporting $7.75 billion in losses — a 59 percent increase over the prior year, with an average loss of $38,500 per victim.

"Seniors are being targeted by scams that are more convincing than ever, and most existing tools either cost money, require an account, or weren't built with seniors in mind," said Tariq Shaikh, founder of PurrtectMe.com. "I wanted to build something a senior or their caregiver could use in the moment, for free, without having to figure out new technology first."

Shaikh brings 17 years of fraud-prevention experience to the project, having built fraud-detection systems at companies including Amazon, American Express, Citibank, Charter/Spectrum, and Walmart/Sam's Club. He holds a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University.

PurrtectMe.com uses generative AI to analyze the language and structure of a submitted communication, drawing on patterns common to phishing, romance scams, tech-support fraud, government impersonation, and investment fraud, then returns its assessment in plain, non-technical language. The site has been live since April 2026 and has been accessed by visitors in 29 countries, with the large majority based in the United States.

Unlike commercial scam-detection features bundled into paid antivirus subscriptions, PurrtectMe.com is designed to remain free permanently, with no in-app purchases or advertising. Shaikh has self-funded the platform's development and hosting to date.
